The Governor's Office of Highway Safety is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) during September to promote National Child Passenger Safety Week.
"The official observance runs from September 19 through 25, but in Georgia we'd like to see parents think of every week as Child Passenger Safety Week," said GOHS Director Dallas. "So we're urging all parents and caregivers to make sure all young passengers in their backseats are properly restrained. Whether it's just a short hop to the grocery store or a cross-country trip to see grandparents, keeping our kids safe requires the same amount of caution."
Traffic enforcement officers know child safety seats and booster seats save lives because they offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) research shows that during the past 30 years, an estimated 8,959 children's lives were saved by child restraints from 1975 through 2008.
