A.B. Short believes that Sharing Can Make a World of Difference and it saves the environment too. By engaging hospitals & manufacturers to join in the recycling effort, MedShare has shipping more than $30 million worth of recycled medical supplies, saving lives in the developing world.

A.B. Short serves as the CEO and Co-Founder of MedShare International and has served the non-profit community of Atlanta for more than three decades. He is well respected for his social entepreneural leadership around social justice issues.

A.B. co-founded MedShare International in 1998. In just seven years, under Short’s guidance, MedShare has evolved into one of the U.S. leading medical surplus recycling programs. This non-profit provides much-needed medical supplies and equipment to clinics and hospitals in the developing world. By collecting, sorting, evaluating, re-packing and shipping medical supplies and equipment, MedShare is able to share our abundance with those in great need.

The previous seventeen years (1981-1998) AB worked on poverty issues in the Atlanta area as an educator, advocate and service provider. AB served as the Marketing Director for the Atlanta Community Food Bank in the early 1980’s, working with donors, both local and national producers and distributors of food and related products.

Also in the early 1980’s, AB initiated the founding of a hospitality ministry through a local church, that was the beginning of the Community of Hospitality (COH) which later became a 501(c)-3 non-profit corporation with a focus on homeless issues. COH continues to this day.

Then came Café 458 and its related services. A. B., with the help of Bob Freeman and others, opened Café 458 in the summer of 1988. It was and still is, a “by reservation only” restaurant for homeless people. The need for an alcohol and drug treatment program became obvious out of the work at Café 458, so a group of treatment professionals and homeless individuals were assembled to determine what might be offered. The result was the creation of a small, long-term residential alcohol and drug treatment program called Café 458’s Recovery Program, now known as the Oakhurst Recovery Program.
