Carol Flammer, President of Flammer Relations, Inc., realizes that we have entered the age of the Internet where research for cars, appliances, jobs and homes is done online. “With the launch of Web 2.0 and Social Media, numerous new online opportunities exist for public relations companies and corporations to maximize Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and drive traffic to corporate Web sites,” said Flammer.

In 2006, the NAHB released a statistic that 85-percent of homebuyers start their home searches online. Flammer says, “Because many of our builder and developer clients are looking at ways to maximize online exposure, we feel it is important to enhance our public relations offering beyond traditional print media.” After much research, the team at Flammer Relations has come up with a winning recipe for online success – blogs, online newsletters, online public relations, wikis, distribution services (such as Atlanta Daybook - www.atlantadaybook.com ) and more.

“Atlanta Daybook plays a big part in our clients’ online success,” says Flammer. Flammer Relations posts company news and success stories on Daybook. Flammer continues, “because Daybook utilizes an RSS feed and is highly indexed by Google with a Page Rank of 4, clients see instant Google hits. This equates to instant links back to clients’ Web sites.”

The idea behind using Web 2.0 and Social Media to increase SEO is to create a network of links to the corporate Web site.

“Blogging is a fun way to attract traffic to your Web site,” says Flammer. “Google loves blogs and ranks them higher in search engine results that typical corporate Web sites. This is the biggest reason to blog. After all, the more traffic your site attracts, the more potential sales.

“Blogs also provide corporate America the opportunity to be transparent – to be real,” explains Flammer. Your audience will forgive you if you are not perfect. They will not forgive you if you are not honest. Corporate bloggers set themselves apart as industry experts. Pick a topic that you are passionate about and start blogging today.”

Flammer Relations launched an industry blog in November 2006. The site, www.AtlantaRealEstateForum.com, is dedicated to sharing the latest new home community news and real estate trends. Best of all, in the true spirit of blogging, it is a free site that invites everyone to post news and participate for free.

The content created by public relations for press releases can easily be repurposed for posting online to sites such as Atlanta Daybook, blogs and more. When posting this information, it is important to keep SEO top-of-mind. Flammer says, “Think of how you search for information online and rewrite your headline to match how you search.” For instance, a typical press release headline might be, “Bowen Family Homes Offers Hot Deals at 20 Atlanta Communities.” A better headline for SEO is, “Atlanta New Home Builder Offers Incentives at 20 Communities.” Flammer also suggests that it is often better to post a 150 to 250 word article that has been keyword enhanced than it is to post the entire document.
